A while back, during my college days, I came across this fascinating radio show called *Desert Island Discs*. Every week, a guest would share their favorite music, picking the albums they’d want to have with them if they were stuck on a deserted island. Now, imagine this concept translated into clothing instead of music. This is my own take on it—my *Essential Suitcase*. These are the ten patterns I'd choose for myself if I found myself stranded somewhere, limited to just a suitcase (or, in my case, my trusty backpack). I’ve included some fabric preferences as well.
Here’s what I’ve picked:
- **Classic Shirt**: Crisp white cotton feels like the classic choice for me. Although I love the idea of fluid silk, I’m leaning toward cotton for now.
- **Yanaka Jacket**: Navy wool seems perfect, perhaps this navy/black doubleface wool? There’s also an interesting option of camel wool paired with black neoprene.
- **Cannes Trousers**: Navy wool suiting is definitely on the list.
- **Metro Tee**: Cream cotton jersey sounds cozy, though linen jersey could work too.
- **Melville Cardigan**: Navy wool jersey, maybe even merino if I can get my hands on it.
- **Garibaldi A-Line Skirt**: Two versions—one short in navy wool suiting or unbleached linen, and another long in navy bias-cut silk.
- **Sintra Halter**: Cream silk would be elegant and versatile.
- **Prado Trench Coat**: Beige cotton gabardine is timeless.
- **Hollywood Trousers**: Dark denim feels practical yet stylish.
- **Amarena Dress**: Beige or cream silk or linen would look great.
