In today's world, as people's quality of life continues to improve, the design and quality of home textiles have also seen significant advancements. However, with the growing consumer demand in the home textile market, a number of substandard products have started to appear on the shelves. These items may look attractive at first glance, but after washing, they tend to fade or shrink quickly. Even more concerning is that some of them fail to meet safety standards in terms of fabric composition, dye content, and pH levels, which can lead to skin irritation and allergic reactions. Last year, during a quality inspection of bedding products conducted by the Beijing Municipal Administration of Industry and Commerce, a well-known brand was found to contain azo dyes that release carcinogenic aromatic amines. This raised serious concerns about the safety of such products. According to reports, there are four major issues with home textile products: First, the actual composition does not match the labeled ingredients; second, poor color fastness leads to fading; third, the pH level of the fabric is out of the safe range; and fourth, some raw materials used are not suitable for direct contact with the skin, such as in clothing or bedding. During the production of textiles, various dyes, auxiliaries, and finishing agents are often added. Some of these chemicals may contain harmful substances that can be detrimental to human health. Experts point out that the natural pH level of human skin is slightly acidic, and if the pH of the textile product is too high or too low, it can disrupt the skin’s acid-base balance, weaken its protective barrier, and increase the risk of allergies and other skin conditions. Prolonged exposure to certain harmful substances could even lead to more severe health issues, including cancer. To address these problems, manufacturers must pay closer attention to the quality of raw materials and the control of the dyeing and finishing processes. If unqualified products reach the market, consumers’ rights and interests could be seriously harmed. In such cases, consumers who purchase or use non-compliant products can take legal action against the manufacturers or file complaints with the relevant authorities to protect their rights and ensure safer products for everyone.
