Ship Tonnage (Ship|s Tonnage)

The tonnage of a ship is a unit of measurement for the size of a ship and can be divided into two types: weight tonnage and volume tonnage.

Use the weight to calculate the tonnage:

It is usually calculated according to the volume of the hull in the water, that is, the displacement. The seawater weighs 1 ton per 35 cubic meters (or 1 metric ton per 0.9756 cubic meters), from which the displacement tonnage of the ship can be calculated.
The displacement tonnage is light and full. The light load displacement includes only the hull, the whole ship's machinery and equipment, and ballast. The full load must also be added to the loaded cargo, passengers, baggage, fuel, materials, fresh water. Wait, the full load displacement minus the light load displacement, that is, the ship's deadweight tonnage (Deadweight tonnage).

Calculate the tonnage by volume:
The total tonnage of the ship is completely independent of the weight of the ship. It is calculated based on the volume of the ship. It is 100 cubic feet in inch or 2.83 cubic meters in metric. The calculated result is the same. So the total tonnage is not The difference between the metric system and the imperial system is calculated by measuring the volume of the enclosed space of each part of the ship. If the amount of feet is used, the sum of the volumes is not divided by 100; if the amount of the meter is used, the result is divided by 2.83. The quotient is the gross tonnage of the ship.
The gross tonnage plays an important role in the various tonnages of ships, because the registration, statistics, etc. of the ship are based on the calculation of the gross tonnage according to the central ship, minus the cab, engine room and other equipment or work needs on board. Outside the place, that is, all the space that can be loaded, passengers, etc. are net tonnage.

Specific calculation method for ship tonnage

(1) Weight Tonnage of the ship (Weight Tonnage)

The weight tonnage of a ship is a unit of measure representing the weight of a ship, one metric ton per 1,000 kilograms, or one ton long at 2240 pounds, or one short ton at 2000 pounds. At present, public production is often used as a unit of measurement in the world. The weight tonnage of a ship can be divided into two types: displacement tonnage and deadweight tonnage.

(2) Displacement Tonnage

The displacement tonnage is the tonnage of the water discharged by the ship in the water and the tonnage of the ship's own weight. The displacement tonnage can be divided into three types: light displacement, heavy displacement and actual displacement.

(1) Ligth Displacement, also known as empty ship displacement, is the sum of the weight of the ship itself plus the crew and the necessary supplies, and is the smaller weight of the ship.

(2) Full Load Displacement, also known as full load displacement, is the weight when the ship is carrying passengers and the draught reaches the higher load line after loading, that is, the ship's larger weight.

(3) Actual Displacement is the actual displacement after each voyage of the ship.

The formula for calculating the displacement is as follows:

Displacement (long tons) = length * width * draft * square modulus (cubic feet) / 35 (sea water) or 36 (fresh water) (cubic feet)

Displacement (metric tons) = length * width * draft * square modulus (cubic meters) / 0.9756 (sea water) or 1 (fresh water) (cubic meters)

The displacement tonnage can be used to calculate the ship's deadweight tonnage; in shipbuilding, the ship's weight can be known based on the displacement tonnage; in the case of statistical warship size and fleet, the light displacement is generally used; the warship passes through the Panama Canal and uses the actual displacement as a sign. The basis of the tax.

2. Dead Weight Tonnage (abbreviated as DWT)

Indicates the capacity of the ship to be used in operation. The deadweight tonnage can be divided into total deadweight tons and net deadweight tons.

(1) Gross Dead Weight Tonnage. It refers to the greater weight that a ship can load according to the load line marking requirements. It includes the sum of the cargo carried by the ship, the fuel required on board, fresh water and other stock materials.

Total deadweight tons = full load displacement - empty ship displacement

(2) Dead Weight Cargo Tonnage (abbreviated DWCT). It refers to the amount of cargo that can be loaded by the ship. It is also called the cargo heavy ton, which is the difference between the total load capacity of the ship and the weight of fuel, fresh water and other reserve items that need to be stored during the voyage of the ship.

The ship's deadweight tonnage can be used for the statistics of the goods; as the basis for the calculation of the monthly rent of the time charter; it represents the carrying capacity of the ship; it can also be used as the calculation unit for the new ship's cost and the old ship's selling price.

(2) Volume tonnage of the ship (Registered Tonnage)

The volumetric tonnage of a ship is the unit representing the volume of a ship, also known as the registered tonnage. It is a unit calculated and measured in tons per maritime country for ship registration, with 100 cubic feet or 2.83 cubic meters being one registered ton. Volume tons can be divided into two types: volume total tons and volume net tons.

1. Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT).

Also known as registered gross tonnage is the sum of the internal space (or volume) of all closed spaces in the cabin and on the deck, which is the quotient of one cubic ton of 100 cubic feet or 2.83 cubic meters.

The total volume of ton is widely used, it can be used for national statistics on merchant fleets; it indicates the size of the ship; it is used for ship registration; it is used by the government to determine subsidies for the shipping industry or shipbuilding allowance: used to calculate insurance costs, Shipbuilding costs and compensation for ships.

2, Net Registered Tonnage (abbreviated as NRT).

Also known as net registered tons, it refers to the tonnage remaining from the total volume of the volume that is not used for business purposes, that is, the tonnage of the volume that the ship can use to load the cargo.

The volume net ton is mainly used for customs declaration and customs clearance of ships; as the basis for various taxes and expenses paid by ships to ports; as the basis for paying canal fees when ships pass through the canal.

Woven fabric is a textile formed by weaving. It is produced on a loom, and made of many threads woven on a warp and a weft.

Woven fabric only stretches diagonally on the bias directions (between the warp and weft directions), unless the threads used are elastic.

Woven fabric cloth usually frays at the edges, unless techniques are used to counter it, such as the use of pinking shears or hemming.
