Nonwovens are the youngest and most promising emerging field in the textile industry. Since the industrialization of nonwovens in the United States in 1942, it has had a short process and high output in the past half century. It has the characteristics of low cost, rapid change of varieties, wide range of raw materials, and many excellent performances. It has been highly valued by the industrial sector and favored by consumers.

The European Nonwovens and Disposable Products Trade Association has assessed that the global nonwovens industry will achieve an average annual growth rate of 8%. In 1998, the global production of non-woven fabrics was 2,462,100 tons, of which the output in North America was 914,000 tons, which is the largest production and consumption market. Followed by Europe, the output was 836,000 tons. The total output of non-woven fabrics in China reached 320,000 tons in 1998, an increase of about 10% from the 290,000 tons in 1997. It is expected that the output in 2000 will reach 370,000 tons, with an average growth rate of 7.5% in two years. In China, the product models and uses of non-woven fabrics in Asia, including North America, are very different. North American nonwovens products are mostly used in disposable products, accounting for 68% of total sales, and 62% of total production is used. For sanitary purposes. Western European non-woven fabric products are mostly used in durable products, and the non-woven fabrics for long-term use account for about 65-70%, and are mostly used in silk fabrics, filter materials and construction materials. In Asia, about 75% of nonwovens are used in durable products, as opposed to North America. The strength of Korean nonwovens falls on linings and related products. Taiwanese nonwovens are mostly used in linings for shoes and artificial leather coatings. Most of our non-woven products are durable products, of which carpets and felts account for the majority of total production.
The application and development of non-woven fabric products are in the ascendant, providing a new opportunity and opportunity for the development and revitalization of China's textile industry. The fiber used in the production of nonwoven fabrics accounts for 85% of chemical fibers and 15% of natural fibers. The most used in chemical fiber is polyester (about half of the total), polypropylene, viscose, polyvinyl alcohol and a small amount of polyamide. At present, due to the high-skilled and highly functional fiber varieties of domestically produced fibers, especially for the production of non-woven fabrics, such as differential, two-component, ultra-fine, high-temperature resistant, flame-retardant, antistatic, antibacterial and deodorant, The development of functional nonwoven products has been greatly limited. Another reason for the lack of functional non-woven fabrics in China is the lack of functional finishing agents and coating materials and the inferior performance. Although there are more than 900 various non-woven fabric production lines in China, there are non-woven fabric production lines such as chemical bonding, needle punching, hot rolling, stitching, spunbonding, meltblowing, jet-forming hydroentanglement. However, basically all of them belong to traditional non-woven fabric products. The equipment required for China's non-woven fabric industry cannot be completely self-sufficient, and the level of equipment that has been domestically produced is not high. The production of functional non-woven fabrics needs to solve the problems of raw materials, equipment and processes. It belongs to high value-added, high-tech non-woven fabric products and is still in its infancy in China.
The development of functional nonwoven products can be achieved by the combined use of functional fiber raw materials, structural lamination of functional nonwovens with conventional nonwovens, and functional finishing of conventional nonwovens. Functional finishing is one of the quickest ways to obtain a functional nonwoven, but its function is not permanent and is suitable for disposable nonwovens. For disposable nonwovens, care should be taken to use environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials. China's non-woven fabrics account for a large proportion of durable products. For durable non-woven fabrics, if they are finished by the finishing method, their functions are easily lost during use, and how to combine the permanent functional fibers with the permanent functional nonwoven fabrics. Obtaining a permanent functional non-woven fabric product is also critical to the high performance and high functionality of our non-woven fabric products, in order to increase the type of non-woven fabric products and increase the added value of the products.
